Addressing Motivation

sad-face.jpg

A customer recently emailed me because they have lost their motivation (see email below). I kept their name anonymous for obvious reasons but wanted to share their message with you because this issue touches us all at some point or another. More importantly, I think this is one of those things that we can overcome with the right help. See the customer's comment and my reply below:

Comment: I have gotten into a rut, how do you suggest getting back on track. I have not been into my fitness regimen for over 3 months and cannot seem to get back on track. - J., March 2009

Dear J.,

It’s normal to fall off the wagon once in a while and to find it difficult to get back on. The main reason it seems so difficult is because you’re no longer on your normal routine and have taken on a new one. The fact that you recognize this is a great step!

I always suggest doing one small thing every day to get back into the habit of exercise. Though you may find it hard to go to the gym straight away, you may find it easier to do a few push ups at home a couple times a day and/or take a 30 minute walk after supper. These are small, easy, and achievable and won’t seem too daunting. Try starting with this and keep me posted.

If you’re not sure what to do and what kind of “at home and on the go” exercises to do, I suggest you flip through my book No Gym Required. There are over 50 simple exercises there and tons of tips and tricks to get you back on your routine!

I hope this helps. Please feel free to contact me again if you need anything or just to check in.
